Isaac Hayes - Juicy Fruit (Disco Freak) (lala) - recently reissued and discussed up on Smooth Jazz Superstars. The opening track is as bananas as that woman's hat.
Slave - Show Time (lala) Slave is interplanetary funksmanship at Space Staion Dayton, circa 1980, with the edges polished to a glistening sheen, then inundated with weird sound effects and a rambling narrative. Set the controls on the heart of the funk, baby!
Bootsy's Rubber Band - Stretchin' Out With... (lala) Bootsy seems like a no-brainer in the funk department, but despite putting James brown on the one and then defecting to infect the P-Funk camp with his silly side (or maybe it was vice-versa), I find Bootsy's records to be pretty hit-and-miss. This record occassionally claps like thunder but in exactly the same way the P-Funk material does, the only seperating factor seeming to be Bootsy's gibberish traded for Clinton's. Not complainin', just sayin'
