When I was little, my extended family was good-hearted Missouri farm folk that gathered around kitchen counters for breakfast and dinner, which was actually lunch, listening on transistor radios to first the farm report, local and ABC radio news, then Paul Harvey. Paul Harvey offered a sweet twist to the information received over rolls and ham, telling a story about a young eagle scout who used the skills learned for a forestry badge to rescue a baby bird from a storm drain, tying it up with “and that young Eagle Scout grew up to be Astronaut Buzz Aldrin.”
