book by its cover

Sister Rosetta Tharpe - Gospel Train (lala) This record is more badass than even the cover image implies.
Roland Kirk with Jack McDuff - Kirk's Work (lala) I love the that dreams played into giving Kirk his name, twice. From wiki
Kirk was born Ronald Theodore Kirk[1] in Columbus, Ohio, but felt compelled by a dream to transpose two letters in his first name to make Roland. He went blind at an early age due to poor medical treatment. In 1970, Kirk added "Rahsaan" to his name after hearing it in a dream.
I wish I was cool enough to dream my name. To have someone ask "Where did that name come from" and confidently replying "I dreamed it" implies a powerful notion of self. Organist Jack McDuff who appears with Kirk on this record played with his name, going as "Brother jack McDuff" alternatively throughout his career, and it seems I've seen an album where he went by Cap'n Jack McDuff, but can't find a reference to confirm it.
Sonny Clark - Cool Struttin' (lala) This record is exactly as cool as its cover and its unambitious name. It is not going alter your course or anything, but is perfect for the stroll to that place that just might.
