There is a fine line between popular and populist entertainment, but I know which side of line I’m on. How popular entertainment gets decided is anyone’s guess, but I’m thinking it has little to do with hearts and minds and more with campaigns and profit charts. Populists are defined as, among other things, believers in the virtues of common people, and The Way High Men and Spring Break Shark Attack! both have a populist streak they play with, as they demonstrated at The Spanish Moon last Saturday.
