Guru was the best, one of the main performers that changed the perceptions of what hip-hop could do as an actual music rather than the aberration thereof that it was then and now perceived. His Gangstarr and Jazzmatazz projects weren't the only ones doing this, mind you, but every old school v. new school didactor and exploratory beat merchant with an eye toward something bigger owes him. RIP.
