[Record Crate] Time to Get Acquainted

Tom Rush set the bar high for singer-songwriters with his first records in the early 1960s and has maintained that standard ever since. If you want some background on this legendary performer, check out this profile from the June issue of 225. But to really get to know Tom Rush, check him out at the Manship Theatre, where he will perform with Baton Rouge artists Casey Kelly and Duke Bardwell.

Jason Isbell, formerly of Drive-By Truckers must like it here; he's been making Baton Rouge a regular stop ever since the 2007 release of his first solo album Sirens of the Ditch. If you haven't heard Isbell perform, come get acquainted with one of the better singer-songwriters working in roots rock this Saturday at Chelsea's.

Speaking of getting acquainted, North Gate Tavern on West Chimes street is celebrating its fourth anniversary of offering a showcase for local talent. Places like the North Gate that are willing to give lesser-known bands a shot at building a following are key to keeping a music scene vibrant, and they are to be commended. Come out Saturday and run up a bar tab with Elsah, Borderline Cuckoo and Astereo Round, all in the name of getting acquainted.
