Raga Megh ~ Jhala
If I had a sitar and could play it like the guy on the right, I would be hard-pressed to find a reason to do anything else all day. I don't even know if this is good by Indian music standards, but the syncopation and density of it is right in the pocket of my thinking. I've been listening to a lot of Tony Williams Lifetime lately, just to get some of that drive and density without sacrificing the swing, and this sees Tony's gamble and raises him a 1000 years of devotion.

Pretty bad-ass. I got to play a sitar once, but it didn't sound anything like that when I played it.
ReplyDeleteme too. My friend Rob had/maybe-still-has one and it sounded like a plywood banjo in my hands.
